National Honor Society (NHS) is a nationwide organization dedicated to four main principles:

    • Create enthusiasm for scholarship
    • Stimulate a desire to render service
    • Promote leadership
    • Develop character in the students of secondary schools

AFSA's chapter of NHS strives to meet these four principles through weekly meetings, service activities, school-wide initiatives, and support of local and global charities and causes.

In order to become a member of NHS, a student must be invited. In 10th grade, students will receive an invitation if they have a GPA of 3.5 or above. Students in grades 11 and 12 will receive an invitation if their GPA is 3.2 or above. Once students receive an invitation packet, they will have to write a two-page essay and complete an application detailing their service, leadership, in-school activities, and out of school activities. This application and essay will be reviewed by a board of teachers and administrators as well as the NHS officers.

All NHS students are expected to participate in the weekly meetings, have open and consistent communication through several channels, and participate fully in the service and school activities.
