Required Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with computers and Microsoft Office Suite programs including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Publisher.
- Experience working/volunteering with youth ages 13-19
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Maintains confidentiality, and possesses unquestionable integrity.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Can prioritize multiple tasks, work under stress, meet deadlines and take direction.
- Can work with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to perform general operations, which require the exercise of judgment, based upon knowledge gained through experience.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Board Policies.
ADA Requirement
- Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform assigned duties, including lifting twenty (20) pounds on an occasional basis and in excess of twenty (20) pounds with assistance.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
- Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced by teachers.
- Assists the teachers in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an empathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities.
- Operates and cares for equipment for instructional purposes.
- Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
- Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
- Assists with the supervision of students during classes, project time, assemblies, field trips, meetings, lunchtime, and before and after school.
- Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licenses teacher.
- Participate in in-service trainings as requested.
- Assist in maintaining daily progress records for students.
- Communicate with parents in coordination with teacher/supervisor.
- Hears the students in recitation, reading and other curriculum tasks, guiding and helping students, but not teaching them.
- Establishes a supportive and positive relationship with the student without fostering or encouraging an intense emotional relationship.
- Serves as a resource person during student evaluations.
- Other duties as assigned.
